This page is for the “Civics 101” class for Cycle 49. We will meet five times from 1:00pm to 2:30pm. Our focus for this Cycle will be to gain an understanding of what a nonprofit organization is and how nonprofits fit into the social change ecosystem. We will use i c stars, itself, as a mini-case to help us learn.

- Centrality of the concept of Mission for a nonprofit – what is it?
- Sources of revenue for a nonprofit
- Interns will start articulating concept for their own nonprofit – linking Mission to a Solution to a Place

- Further discussion of the Mission Statement
- Small Group Work: Interns reveal sketches of their nonprofits
- Introduction to the concept of Servant-Leadership
- Small Group Work: Honing in on the BEHAVIOR of great leaders
Session #4 – November 15, 2021
- Life cycle of the nonprofit organization
- The board of directors and the nonprofit organization
- Interview/discussion with i c stars Advisory Board members: Yemi Akisanya, Global Head of Diversity & Equity, Groupon
